Derek Dow

Derek is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).

He is currently Technical Director-DCC/DND and Senior Electrical Engineer at Englobe in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and a Schulich ExecEd instructor. He has led teams of over 100 engineering professionals in a variety of different industries. Prior to joining Englobe, Derek was employed as an engineering manager and program/project manager in a variety of industries, including marine engineering, physical security infrastructure, oil & gas and buildings, infrastructure and energy. He also holds a Master of Business Administration (2017) and completed the MCPM program in 2008. Derek has been a project management instructor for over 10 years, having delivered courses for PMI – Nova Scotia Chapter and Dalhousie University. In his personal time, Derek enjoys golfing, curling and playing squash.

Dr. Bob Bell, MDCM, MSc, FRCSC, FACS, FRCSE (hon).

Robert Bell served as Ontario’s Deputy Minister of Health from 2014 to 2018. Prior to this role, he worked as President and Chief Executive Officer of University Health Network (UHN) for nine years. He was previously the Chief Operating Officer at Princess Margaret Hospital, the Chair of Cancer Care Ontario’s Clinical Council and the Cancer Quality Council of Ontario.

Dr. Bell received his Doctor of Medicine from McGill University, a Master of Science from the University of Toronto and achieved his Fellowship in Orthopaedic Surgery in 1983. He completed training in Orthopaedic Cancer Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard University in 1985 and in the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School in 2005.
Dr. Bell is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the American College of Surgeons and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

As an internationally recognized orthopedic surgeon, health system executive, clinician-scientist, and educator, Dr. Bell has more than 45 years of healthcare experience. Today, he provides advice to a number of private and public organizations and has published three novels, with all proceeds from these books benefiting UHN foundations.

Hemant Sangwan

Hemant Sangwan is a full-time professor at Seneca College. Alongside his position as an instructor for Schulich ExecEd, he is a sessional lecturer at Schulich School of Business, York University and Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. He teaches courses in AI/ML, data science, analytics, economics, marketing research, and statistics at undergraduate, graduate, and executive levels.

Hemant has led executive education modules in marketing analytics and data science for business delegates and has conducted intensive boot camp programs in Python programming and data science at the leading schools (Boston University, University of Toronto) in the world. Hemant has also contributed to curriculum and program development, pedagogical, and multi-media teaching innovations.

He spent 12+ years in the industry (Boston Consulting Group (BCG), GfK Canada, Leger Marketing, IHS Markit) working as a consultant and expert in management consulting, data science and analytics, marketing research, economic consulting and forecasting functions. In his consulting roles, he served clients in the financial services, CPG, retail, telecom, and construction sectors, both in Canada and international markets. He has demonstrated exceptional knowledge of problem formulation, project management, survey design and analytics, data interpretation and translation on cases in growth strategy, branding, pricing, CRM, and new product development.

He was a strategist (volunteer) for a political campaign for a candidate in the Ontario municipal election in 2018 and served as Chief Financial officer for a candidate in the federal election in 2021. In this volunteer role, he used his skills in analytics, marketing strategy, branding, and social media to advise the candidate on campaign logistics, voter segmentation, platform positioning, and campaign messaging in print, digital, and social media channels.

Karthik Kuber has fifteen years of academic research as well as industrial experience in Machine Learning and Data Science. He is currently an Engineering Manager at Yelp, leading a team of Applied Scientists and ML Engineers. He received his PhD in Computer Science from Syracuse University focusing on Evolutionary Computation and Network Science. He is a university ambassador for NVIDIA’s Deep Learning Institute, a senior member of the IEEE and the ACM, has co-organized three editions of the International Workshop on Evolutionary Rule-based ML, and is an advocate for DEI in STEM.
