Richard Laszlo

Richard Laszlo is a recognized authority in the Canadian energy sector, bringing over 20 years of experience at the intersection of energy policy, technology, and sustainability. He partners with utilities, municipalities, governments, and energy users to deliver projects and advise on strategy, policy, and low carbon innovation, drawing on roles that span technical energy systems and the regulatory frameworks that govern them. Richard currently serves as Director of Low Carbon Services for Markham District Energy, where he advises on decarbonization, climate policy, and project implementation, and as Senior Director of Education for CAMPUT (the Canadian Association of Energy Regulators), where he leads development of an Advanced Regulatory Course and curates faculty for professional training.

A trusted industry voice, he has contributed to over 100 conferences, workshops, and university classes across Canada, is valued for his ability to synthesize diverse viewpoints and build consensus among stakeholders ranging from utilities to all levels of government, and serves as an Adjunct Professor at York University teaching renewable energy and efficiency, as well as lead author of the Primer on Energy Systems in Canada. He holds a Master in Environmental Studies and a Graduate Diploma in Business and Environment from York University, along with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Engineering Physics from Queen’s University.
