Maximize Leadership Effectiveness Using EQ Techniques and Resilience Training

In the past few years, organizations have shifted their focus to prioritize skills in interpersonal relations and communication over specialized technical skills. The practicalities of managing during the pandemic has accelerated this trend.

These desired qualities have been termed “EQ” — or the ”Emotional Quotient.” Schulich ExecEd’s specially designed two-program series gives participants the full spectrum of knowledge, tools and techniques needed to add this dimension to their leadership tool-kit.

In some ways the emphasis on people skills is not a “new” requirement: the most productive and prosperous organizations have always been the ones whose employees felt an emotional connection to their place of work, and were in it for more than just a paycheque. Authenticity, empathy, credibility, reliability, and confidence are enduring qualities for leaders. Managers, supervisors and directors at every level seek to adopt them to increase their leadership capacity, enhance overall performance and create a healthy work environment.

Any motivated person in a leadership role can leverage fifteen specific EQ competencies and apply current EQ tools and techniques through the Schulich ExecEd program Maximizing Leadership Impact with Emotional Intelligence. Among other activities, participants conduct a self-assessment to pinpoint their EQ management strengths and growth edges, then create a customized development plan.

After completing the course, participants will be able to:

  • Complete the five stages towards assessment, strategic engagement and targeted development of their own EQ to more effectively address workplace challenges
  • Define the critical role of their EQ in today’s increasingly complex and changing working relationships
  • Assess why emotional competencies are “essential capabilities” for anyone who manages or leads
  • Learn how to engage EQ skill and competency practices to achieve dramatic improvements in employee attitude and performance levels

Schulich ExecEd pairs this program with another leadership development program, Thriving in Disruptive Times with Leadership Resilience. This is for leaders who want to enhance their level of resilience and support their teams in a VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex, ambiguous) world. When team leaders recover quickly from difficulties, those working under them experience reduced stress levels and adopt positive attitudes themselves. They see setbacks as opportunities, and are able to rebound to higher levels of success.

After completing the course, participants will be able to:

  • Adapt positively to pressure, setbacks, challenges and change to achieve and sustain higher levels of personal effectiveness
  • Leverage their resilience strengths to manage stress and help their team manage stress levels
  • Coach their team in productive ways to deal with difficult situations and seek support
  • Enhance the components of resilience to think, work and communicate faster and smarter

The business-focused content of these two programs, which can be taken separately or together, support participants in enhancing their personal resilience so they can strengthen their overall well-being and adaptability. The upcoming sessions of both programs are to be conducted online, offering a combination of group discussion, hands-on individual and team exercises, self-reflection, guided feedback and action planning. They are ideal for those who lead at any organizational level and wish to create a well-adjusted workplace, motivate employees, drive innovative solutions and produce better business results.
