Management 2: the program that can ‘blow minds’

Executives who have participated in Schulich ExecEd’s five-day, Management 2 program for senior leaders have consistently rated it one of the most important and practical management learning experiences of their career – and the most recent class was no exception.

But it’s not every day that participants are THIS enthusiastic: “[Course facilitator] Cy [Charney] blew my ever-loving mind – honestly!”

Whew, thanks!

The effusive participant went on to explain, “So much to review and consider. [Cy] could have only been better with more days together. [Co-facilitator] Joe [Sherren]’s stories will stay and play in my mind through the coming months and years. Access to both instructors for additional support following the program was beyond my expectations and very genuine.”

Another participant was also full of praise, but for perhaps the opposite reason: “[Cy was] very calming and humanistic.” Good – calm is good too.

Developed specifically for executives who have experienced the gains and pains of leading organizations and organizational departments, this advanced management training program was designed to provide participants with expertise and insight on the most contemporary issues confronting organizations and the leaders who run them – from self-management and leadership to organizational change initiatives.

“This program helps you think outside the box and is excellent in combining both theory and practice,” said another participant. “The tools I left with will be used for years to come!”

Another popular part of the program is the Learning Styles Inventory 360° feedback assessments of personal management styles. It prompted one participant to say, “This program provided me with an opportunity to reflect on my management style and incorporate new ways of thinking.”

We always ask participants how we can improve our open enrolment programs and their comments are used to refine each run of the program. In the latest class, one attendee reacted to the two-day portion led by Charney by recommending, “More than 2 days! Very valuable and left me wanting more.”

Of course, the most important survey question we pose is, “would you recommend this program to others.” And for Management 2, the top answer is nearly always “strongly agree” – in fact, for this latest group the answer was unanimous.

And that is also why we frequently get comments like this one from an alumni participant: “I have now taken five programs at Schulich ExecEd and it has been instrumental in my growth as a manager.”
